This region was settled by Slavic tribes in the IX century. In the XI century this territory became a part of the Principality of Kiev, and after 3.5 centuries it became a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, then of Poland. In 1793, after the second partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, this region became a part of Russia.
Settlements in the area grew and developed.
In 1967, Narovlya received the status of a city.
The Chernobyl disaster on April 26, 1986 dramatically changed the life and development of the area. Narovlya was in the exclusion zone.

This area is characterized by good preservation of natural complexes.
